Objector Named
Monday 8 February 2010
It has been confirmed this afternoon by her office that it was Kerry McCarthy, MP for Bristol East, an Assistant Whip, who said: ‘Object’ last Friday and, in that one small word, giving us a major uphill battle to ensure that Lord Morris’s Bill becomes law within this parliamentary term.
The Bill will ensure that safeguards are put in place to help protect every citizen in this country from contaminated blood. It will ensure proper financial compensation and peace of mind for those whose lives have been ruined by NHS treatment. It will help with insurance, it will help ensure this never happens again, so what, we asked, was the reason she objected? This is what her office told us:
They are not against the Bill itself, just not willing to allow it without debate.
We have to remind her that for many months now we have been calling for such a debate and have been consistently refused and sidelined! Shame on you, Kerry! Do you realise what you have done?
