Saturday 18 August 2012

Please click on the link below to get the latest updates on the All Party Parliamentary Group on Haemophilia and Contaminated Blood.  The group is due to meet again in October to ‘re-establish itself’ and ‘elect new officers’

In recent months we have sadly lost Lords Ashley, Corbett, Archer and Morris, all of whom supported haemophiliacs in their efforts to bring about an end to bring about an end to nearly thirty years of campaigning.  It is therefore even more important than usual that you ask your MP to join the APPG and go along to the meeting in October.

Please, whilst MPs are out and about in their constituencies during the summer recess, make an appointment to visit yours and explain that, despite parliamentary propaganda to the contrary, this matter has not been sorted out yet.  Over 80% of those haemophiliacs infected through contaminated blood did not benefit from the Government’s last review.  Widows have never been granted an on-going payment in recognition of their loss, and many people are still struggling from day to day, both with health problems and financial.  Many exist on, or just above, the poverty line because of something not of their making.  If you were fortunate enough to gain a payment from the review, just remember that the amounts handed out were tiny compared to people’s financial losses.  Also, this is not just about money; it is about truth and justice.

Please don’t rely on other people to do this.  We need everyone who is able to, to try and get their MP’s support.  If, for any reason they refuse, please let us know.  If the excuse is that there are dozens of APPGs and they sit on others, this may well be true, but this one is dealing with the largely unrecognised deaths of thousands of British citizens at the hands of the NHS.  Surely there can be no group that is more deserving of their attention?

Let us know the good news and the bad, please!
